Most successful language learning techniques utilize a form spaced repetition to train the brain to retain vocabulary, but they can be dull to use. The average person listens to 18 hours of music a week, oftentimes listening to the same songs again and again -- imagine if this time was spent training yourself to learn new vocabulary?
Baleenka asks you three questions and provides you a playlist to help with your learning journey. What languages are you learning? What vocabulary are you trying to learn? What music do you like to listen to? The playlist you receive will help you achieve your learning goals.
Generally, we recommend using learning songs in a three-stage sequence: (1) vocab drill where you practice listening to specific words and phrases from your songs, (2) binge listen so you practice comprehending the lyrics in context, and (3) karaoke so you internalize the phrases and structure.
By using the same "earworm" effect that jingle-writers use to sell products, we hope to teach you new languages. We use technology to identify songs that align with your personal taste and also feature vocabulary in patterns that are conducive to memorization.
While we are still in an experimental alpha stage, we are welcoming to feedback. Please send any feedback to feedback@baleenka.io.
